Google Search Algorithm Update: Freshness

Google Algorithm UpdateToday, Google released an update to their search algorithm which will supposedly improve the freshness of the content within their search results. So, this basically means that you’ll see a boost in rankings for content that are time-sensitive. According to Google, this update will affect close to 35% of all searches. This may be good news for publishers and bloggers who regularly write new content. And, bad for those that don’t. However, according to Google this update shouldn’t affect “evergreen” content. So, if you’re receiving the bulk of your traffic through evergreen content, it shouldn’t be hugely affected by this update.

This sounds like a practical thing to do – showing the latest content for searches. However, I’m a little skeptical about how accurate this algorithm will be in determining which topics are current events and which topics are evergreen.
